A typical early oil well pump jack which transferred the horizontal rod line movement coming from the centralized power house to a vertical motion which was connected to the rods in the well which were connected to a piston pump in the bottom of the oil well. The Pump Jacks shown here are practical identical to those used on The J. P. Vickers lease which GranPa spent many a day with. Starting about age 8, I was made to hoe the weeds around the power house and at an older age made to clean and paint the power house and pump jacks.
