Engines pretty much all looked a like and operated off several kinds of fuel but, the most common was to run the engines straight off the natural gas supply from the oil wells themselves. The engines were cranked by standing on the spokes and rolling the engine into the compression, once rolled into the compression the wheel was grabbed by hand and started towards the firing stroke and as the spokes got into position you stood on them to keep the engines rolling as fast as possible to get the engine into the compression far enough to cause the magneto to fire and start the engine which then started and ran opposite to the way you had been cranking it.
